Lucy is my favorite character. Mandy added a lot to the show, but she will never completely fill the hole that Lucy left.

I don't know. They're both fine. I won't be negative.

Sorry about that. But, I do not think I can properly give an opinion without giving both positive and negative feedback. I never said that Mandy was bad, it's just that she is different from Lucy and can't fully fill the exact character of Lucy.

Ok thanks. Lucy kind of got on my nerves on Connie goes to Camp and the few episodes after that when she threw her little fit. It got annoying. Was that mean?

Gotta go with Mandy. She's a very real character. I like how she's very intelligent, but she's not a show-off; she's sweet, but she can fight her own battles; and she's a committed Christian, but she has gone through periods of very real doubt and anger at God. She can play the Straight Woman, but she's not generic, and I think that's part of the reason why she stuck around for so long—she played off of different characters in different ways, all of which were entertaining.

My first instinct was to go with Lucy, her being one of the classic characters and all, but after thinking it over for about 15 seconds, I realized that Mandy was always a bit more realistic, particularly in the later episodes involving her parents.

I would say Mandy, but only barely. I like both of them, but as they both have pretty much exactly the same personality, to me it all came down to the voice. Let's face it, Lucy has a weird, squeaky voice.

Both of them have weird, squeaky voices...?

Even speaking as someone who finds Emily Jones's voice grating (and Barrett's, at least in his first episode, before Andy Pessoa apparently mellowed out), that's not how you judge if a character is worthwhile. I may not like the quality of Emily's voice, but that doesn't affect my perception of her as a character; it just means I think her voice is annoying. Judge a character by who they are, not the way their voice sounds.

In response to the above comment (by fodo14, I think) that both Lucy and Mandy are "whiny", how much of that is either character actually complaining without merit and how much of it is an understandable reaction to a certain situation? I don't know in what context Lucy is considered "whiny", but I think I can guess for Mandy, and I'd like to point out that Mandy's parents, the people she looked to as possessing an unbreakable partnership, were looking like they might divorce, her brother was becoming distant and sullen, and she felt like she was being coddled by everyone around her. The poor kid had a right to be upset. =( That's not whining, it's humanization.

YES. I don't really like either of them for that reason, but I think Lucy (for the most part) acted slightly less victimized and dramatic.
