I think people like Connie and Jason need to get married adding to the Odyssey population. Then even if it [ means Whit has to die ] Jason should take over. Just because Whit dies doesn't mean Odyssey has to. Tom Riley just disappeared with no explanation. He could of just died on the show.

I'd like to hear your ideas!

People sometimes say Whit could die or leave or what have you, or that some super major change like that should happen. Maybe eventually but keep one thing in mind. What makes a series a series is running threads. If episodes become too unrelated to one another, it's not really even a series. In other words, the Boxcar Children mysteries are the Boxcar Children mysteries because they're about the Boxcar Children. Otherwise, they'd be entirely unrelated mysteries. If you get rid of Spock and Captain Kirk an company, Star Trek would be remarkably un-star trekky. (Disclaimer: I have watched one episode of Star Trek.) There needs to be continuity.

That being said, some big changes are indeed happening. Wooton is getting married and the Meltsners are ten to one adopting Buck, and I love those changes. So it's just a matter of making the right changes, using the show's resources rather than disposing of them.

Change shouldn't happen for the sake of change. For example, the writers shouldn't kill off Whit just because "lololol we can kill whit and shock the audience lololol"

^that. Add my vote to that.
That said, I also don't think the writers should marry off Wooton and Penny just because "lololol we can marry them and please the audience lololol"

I agree with the first, but not the second. They purposely have been building up their relation for an album about those kind of things. When was our last wedding? Oh wait the last one we had ended in disaster.

It's doesn't have to be for just the sake of change more for the future of the show.

And how does killing the main central character help the future of the show?

Andre Stokia[?] can't live for ever and they can not keep changing his voice. Making Jason in charge would be different but it could be good.

Yes, but does killing Whit need to happen right now? Besides, Andre Stojka is only 70; it's not like he's not long for this earth or anything. ;) The AIO team would need a really good, solid reason for killing Whit.

There is something you are missing, Micky. Whits End is the core of Adventures in Odyssey, and like BTV Live pointed out, God called Whit to run it. Killing off Whit might work for a few episodes when Whit is still fresh in everyone's minds and all the lessons he taught.....but what about a year down the road? New fans will love Whits End and the charming Mr. Jason Whittaker, but something would be missing. Whit holds things together in Odyssey, and I'd rather have a Whit with a poor voice, than no Whit at all.

It is called Adventures in Odyssey, not Adventures With Whit. He doesn't have to be there for the show to go on. It is about a town with many Christians trying to figure out life and that could continue after Whit died. He needs to die someday for the show to be realistic. He can't live forever. AND he has been away before and others have said that the episodes when he was away on the archaeology dig were some of the best!

I agree that the show can exist and has existed without Whit's presence, but I think the comparison between his death and Hal Smith's is disingenuous. When Hal Smith died, the writers sent Whit off to the archaeological dig with the knowledge that they intended to bring him back; the Jack-and-Jason era basically existed so that the show could still run while the team looked for a replacement actor. For the character of Whit to die, however, would be very permanent, and would change the show considerably in a way that Whit's actor dying didn't - you can't bring back someone who's dead, after all.

But they don't need to bring him back. It isn't realistic.

-- Mon May 25, 2015 6:51 pm --

I meant it isn't realistic for him to be around forever not just for him to come back after he dies.

Andre brought something different and special to Mr. Whittaker, something especially loving and kind. All our Whit's have that, but I feel like Andre brought it closer. I think we could have a solid 5-8 more albums with Mr. Stojka.

I agree with you on many levels, Miss Friendship. Whit is a very special character. He has a spiritual maturity and love for people and teaching at a different level than Jason does. I highly, highly doubt that killing Mr. Whittaker would be a change that would ever take place. Whit is the heart and soul of Odyssey, and to take him away changes Odyssey and Whit's End, maybe for the worst.

I would say that the only circumstance under which they would kill Whit, would be that they were unable to find a voice for him. But with Seven Billion humans in the world, there will always be a voice, and if they can find it, they'll use it, even if it isn't the uncanny nearly exact match of Smith-Herlinger, but I think finding a voice similar to Andre's would be easier than one similar to Hal or Paul. But I still doubt that killing a main character would happen.

When Walker, Dave, ETC, died, they wouldn't kill off Bernard, Tom, or Bart, because they are well loved characters, and can be quietly removed, but not killed. They couldn't quietly remove Whit.
No. Way. No Way. It couldn't happen. They have found three voices for Whit so far, and they'll find another when they need it. Andre won't live forever, and when he passes away, they'll look for a new voice for Whit, and they'll find one eventually. I just hope they don't pull the whole 2 year hiatus thing. A couple of years with Whit just gone would be fine!

With all that said, I sincerely believe that Whit will never be killed off of AIO.

Thank You for your time. If your read that whole thing, I applaud you.

I have to agree with you about Andre. He does just bring that extra needed piece to the show!

Although I thought Whit sounded strange when Andre Stojka first took over as the actor, he has grown a lot on me. And I do agree with you Gabby. Hal and Paul were special in their own way, but Andre just brought the really sweet and loving side of Whit. I hope they can keep him on for many albums to come.

Poor Andre Stojka. I hope he doesn't read this thread. :anxious:

That said, although it feels unthinkable to have Whit die, I found myself rather liking this. It strikes me as poignant.

I know this is exactly what you didn't mean, Miss Friendship, but somehow I like the idea of Mr. Jason Whittaker eventually taking over Whit's End, stepping into his father's (enormous) shoes, and becoming the new "Whit". And a new generation of Odyssey begins.
