#60: The End of an Odyssey

The End has come, and the journey is complete. With Jason and Connie on engaged, Eugene, Katrina and Buck in Africa, and Whit in the hospital with cancer, no one can take care of Whit's End. Whit, knowing he does not have much time left on this earth, sells the place to Odyssey Community Church so it may be run by fellow Christians. Matthew Parker, and Priscilla Peterson are upset, when the Jones family announces that they are moving. And Jay Smous is critically injured in a car accident. Then, in the midst of it all, Penny and Wooton move to the same town as the Jones: Ambrosia, Arizona. These 12 stories on loss, forgiveness, relationship, missions, and new beginnings are the most saddening collection yet.
A scene from Goodbyes, an episode in The End of an Odyssey:
Dr Graham: Dr. Morton, were losing him!
Dr Morton: Oh this is all too familiar- remember June Kendall?
(A flash back of important scenes to plays, approximately 2 minutes long)
Whit (in a weak voice): The best is yet to come.
(Monitor, which has been beeping for the entire scene, stops)
Then Odyssey releases a new series titled 'Adventures in Ambrosia'.
Would that be a fitting ending to Odyssey?

I like parts of it. I don't know if I want the ending to be so sad (it would be sad enough it has to end at all!). Why can't Jason and Connie run Whit's End? Seems fitting it should go to the ones most familiar with it, next generation of Whittakers. :)

NO NO NO
JUST NO

I don't think I could handle any end to Odyssey... but Whit dying would be too painful.

Sure. I'd be all for this. Sounds good, man. If it happened I don't think I would have a big problem if AIO stopped like this. Though there would need to be something happy that happened. Cause Whit dying of cancer is a little too much. Though with all the other things that happened, I don't think it would be that bad. xD

I actually think Matthew would be happy that Emily is gone... Heh heh heh... xD

If there was an ending, I think they should do like they intended to do with Darkness before Dawn--have a huge epic saga, perhaps bigger than all the other sagas combined. Really dramatic with lots of adventure. Then I might not be so sad that it ends. I could have all that to look back on. And AIO has to have a huge climax, because of how long the program has been.

K. Thanks for your thoughts. Maybe there could be a four part episode about Blackgaard, and they could Mitch die fighting him.

AIO should end with a normal episode. Just another day in the life in a small town called Odyssey.

Odyssey can't end, but Whit can. Whit is getting a little old.

I agree, Gaberk. I hope Odyssey doesn't end, but Whit needs to soon.

Whit doesn't have to die to keep the show interesting. ;) Besides, no one really knows how old Whit is or how much time has passed in-show. I'm personally of the opinion that he's somewhere in his sixties, which means he's got a few good years left in him.

I don't know, he was probably in his sixties when the show started. I'd say he's probably in his seventies--but still, he can live for 30+ years yet! ;)

Still, he's getting old, and I would say that he only has 20- years to live. Almost all men die around 80-90 years old.

Which means there's no need to kill him off just yet. ;)

No, not quite yet, but at least two albums in the future.

If Whit has at least twenty years, two albums is way too soon.

Well, as he gets older he won't be able to do as much, so they might as well have him die then.

Two albums might cover about three months of Odyssey time, not the two years of our time. They're not going to kill off Whit anytime soon.

Well, I guess that would be true, but still he's getting up there.

Whit's special. So he can live longer than most people. ;) Why not live to 100? My grandma's 97 and till recently she lived in her own house still.

Whit has to be in his eighties, cuz he fought in world war two.
