Let's Talk About Child Characters

Post

There are plenty of people in this fandom who for whatever reason don't appreciate hints at romance between younger kids, preferring that if AIO is to discuss romance at all, they should do it within the confines of adulthood. But as long as it's kept in perspective, there's nothing wrong with child character ships, and this is the thread to talk about them. Here you can discuss your AIO kid character shipping preferences--be it for Matthew and Emily, Jared and Liz, Curt and Lucy, whomever. What do you ship? And if you're so inclined, why do you ship it? This is the repository for any and all discussions of young romance.

A ship is pairing two characters together in a romantic relationship.

It's not just the pairing; it's also when you support that pairing being together romantically. To take the "shipping" pun further, passionate support is termed "sailing the ship".

It's also a really good way to ruin your life. :( Feelings for fictional characters can be surprisingly painful.

Well tough stuff Jules comes to town. And so does Buck but in one scene after Buck got beat Jules sounded like she really cared instead of being tough cold hared Jules :D

Cool! :) I think that will be an interesting dynamic. They're two very intriguing characters, I think. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing from Buck again, and Jules was a nice change of pace from the typical Brooding Seeker character.

I'm not sure where to say this, so I'll say it here. I don't approve of Trandy, even though it was written into the show. Is no one else confused by the age difference? When Jared was about 11 he said his brother was 2. Mandy was always going to school with Jared then suddenly she's in school with his 9 year younger than him brother??? What? That makes no sense.

Well, I think you're also ignoring the fact that immediately prior to her being in middle school with Jared, she was somewhere around 5 or 6 in "Tornado!". There's also the fact that in "True Calling", she states that she's fourteen, but in "Out of Our Hands", the events of the episode proper take place eight months after her twelfth birthday. In other words, Mandy's age is basically whatever the writers want it to be, and as of her last appearance on the show, it was the same as Trent's.

Besides, by the time they're of age to get married, the age difference won't even matter. Age means much less to adults than it does to children.

The ages of several characters, such as Connie, have often seemed confusing, but always seemed to work throughout the AIO timeline. And although I never noticed the age gap between Mandy and Trent until now, I don't see that as a problem. And both characters are still my favorite child-like couple, and my favorite boy and girl characters throughout the history. And I was just thinking, does anyone else think it would be awesome some time a little further down the road, that AIO has an episode where Trent and Mandy are newly married, and decide to move to Odyssey. And from that point, they get to be seen on the show every now and then.

It doesn't bother you that Mandy's age changes so much?

Not really. But I also normally don't read too much into all the technical parts, such as age, that go into the writing of the show. And since Mandy's age bothers you, does it bother you that Connie has been about 20 for over 10 years?

No not really haha I guess you have a good point, the technical stuff doesn't always matter. I love Connie's character and what it brings to the show so it's all good.
