Musicals
Musicals are a great combination of singing, dancing, and acting... and it's all live! What are some of your favorite musicals? What are some you've seen live? What musical song do you normally have stuck in your head?

You didn't like Beauty and the Beast? I like it. Some of the added songs are really great. However, if it was a highschool production... the quality might have been really bad. o___o
I've seen (none live...):
-Sound of Music (movie version, and I also saw the version with Carrie Underwood)
-Oliver! (movie version)
-Fiddler on the Roof (Highscool production)
-Shrek the Musical (started my interest in musicals)
-Seussical the Musical (my favorite musical)
-Wicked
-Newsies
-Beauty and the Beast (the musical)
-Phantom of the Opera
I enjoyed all of these except Phantom... I'd like to see Thoroughly Modern Millie and maybe Next to Normal.

SHOCK! Bethy's favorite thread is the one on musicals. It was actually Dom's idea, she just made me make it.Bethany Shepard wrote:This is literally my new favorite thread. Thank you for creating it, Ox.

I know it's been asked before, but what are some of your favorite people on Broadway?
For actors/actresses: Jeremy Jordan, Terrance Mann, Kara Lindsay, and Sutton Foster.
Alan Menken is, of course, an amazing composer, and Stephen Shwartz is alright... I don't know enough musicals to have a real opinion on lyricists and librettists and other writers.
Oh! And I just remembered I saw a highschool production of Fiddler on the Roof. It was pretty good.

You hate My Fair Lady!? But Beth, I didn't know that was possible. I've never heard those words in the same sentence. Seriously, if I needed to pick one to be elaborated on, that one, please.

I don't as much hate it as I am sick of it. My family loves it, so we listen to it far too frequently. However, I do love Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.

Anyone else currently obsessed with Hamilton (like me)?

Probably no one cares but I am really excited right now.
NEWSIES IS GETTING FILMED!!!
Most of the original Broadway cast is getting back together this September to perform Newsies on stage, and it's going to be filmed and released as a movie sometime next year!
Newsies is really a great musical (it's by Alan Menken so no duh) and I'm really glad Kara Lindsay (who was recently Glinda in Wicked) and Jeremy Jordan (Supergirl etc.) are coming back to play the two main characters. I'm really excited for the movie to come out... ESPECIALLY, since it just might mean Broadways are finally going to start being recorded and released as movies. (but probably not)

Ok! Has anyone listened to Dear Evan Hansen yet? Fantastic soundtrack. Amazing story. Definitely worth listening to. I would look up the plot line ahead of time because it would be difficult to figure out the storyline just while listening. But I think it's really good! Very original and inspiring. (Now I really want to see it! )

Is that what you’re saying?" -Jay Smouse
IT'S OUT THIS WEEK. Newsies is in select movie theaters on February 16, 18, 22. I am so excited for this, and hoping to see it tomorrow maybe. =0 This better come out digitally too though.
