NinjaHunter, you are a wimp. :P There's nothing better than the door creaking open as the monster's silhouette becomes visible through the crack. :D

Re: Sola Scriptura

I think that's a pretty significant difference actually. It also explains why the Protestant Reformation months after it begun had already split into several camps and continues to split into different denominations to this day. Somehow this does not sound like a necessarily bad thing to me. If you...

Re: Sola Scriptura

Scripture is still part of the authority for Christians, it's just not the only one. We use discernment tempered by Tradition. A question for you though, how do you as a Sola Scriptura Christian discern what is just your thoughts and opinions about the interpretation of Scripture? Uh, with discernm...

I actually feel more secure with the door open, so that I can see the monster coming; my mortal fear is having the door closed and seeing/hearing it open, or waking up to it open...<shivers>.

I will say I'm flabbergasted you and Belle, "don't care." I mean we all have different issues, but again, this is where all our other differences proceed from. There's a difference between "not caring" and not having the knowledge to form arguments foe this deep of a debate. Tha...

Re: 2016 Presidential Election

Both of the remaining candidates are professing Christians, we don't need to debate whether they actually are or not but the point remains that in 2016 we just had the first non-Christian candidate win a Presidential primary (Bernie Sanders). Meanwhile in the Middle East the ancient Church is being...

If Scripture is not the sole authority on Christianity, then what is? How do we determine what God has actually said and what is just our thoughts and opinions?

Re: Is there such a thing as a "Worldly Christian"?

Aye, and that is why being a Christian can be so difficult at times; the world judges you by your actions, and being fallen we are often outdone by others whose beliefs are incorrect. Yet, those good works do not save them. But, I digress. Not that I am eager to address the OP. <narrows eyes at MF> ...

Believing the right thing (orthodoxy) and doing the right (orthopraxy) thing go together; neither on their own can save you.

Re: Christian Modesty and Purity Culture

First off, nudity is a bad idea. For anybody. We can all agree that we need to cover ourselves. Showing off reproductive organs, whether male or female, is probably a bad idea (obviously). Topless for females is also probably a bad idea. Topless for males is hazier, though it is probably inappropria...

Re: Christian Modesty and Purity Culture

@GJFH: Gotcha. It makes sense that you would be upset over getting called out semi-publicly when others with more egregious outfits were not. I can see where one would be opposed to showing camisole straps, but I do not see why it would be such a big issue. I mean, one can only be so nitpicky about ...

@GJFH Concerning your story, did your former church have any stated modesty standards, or did the harassment come out of nowhere? Did you have a general idea of what the modesty standards were? How did your outfit compare to those around you? Now that I think about it, the way the youth leaders acte...

...Where do you get that we have absolutely no control over the environment. Cities have smog. Is that not a change in the environment of a city made by man? 1.
