Timothy Center hosts wide variety of
conventions
This month the Timothy Center will host a
convention for the local chapter of the Society for Mental Improvement and
Living Enthusiastically, or SMILE for short. The group will be having a
week-long bash filled with activities celebrating their happiness.
Howard Weamer, president of the local chapter, said that SMILE conventions
are where members get their energy. "It's so wonderful to be around all
these happy people. So many people in this world are so cynical, so
negative, so annoying, so hard to get along with, and so insulting. We keep
everything on a much higher plane," said Weamer.
The week will include the singing of the traditional SMILE song (composed by
SMILE president and founder Guy Shaffer), a biggest smile contest, a few
rounds of "Hide and Seek," and a special appearance by a surprise guest.
Weamer declined to comment on the guest. "I will only say that any SMILE
member would be thrilled to see this guest!"
Tom Riley, owner and operator of the Timothy Center, said he's glad that
such diverse groups are using the Center. "When I started the center, I had
no idea how many groups would use it. I'm very pleased."
