The latest album from the series of radio
shows based on our town will be released next month. Nathaniel Graham
interviewed some of the citizens of Odyssey who played themselves in the
show.
The
Cover Art
The latest album features a very interesting cover with Whit looking at a
map. I talked to Whit about posing for the cover. "It looks like an easy
cover to photograph, but it wasn't," said Whit. "It took a long time to get
the lighting just exactly right so the shadow from his finger would fall
across the town of Odyssey. It's subtle, but I think it really added to the
cover."
Slumber Party
Sarah Prachett remembers, "My favorite episode was "Slumber Party" because
it was so much fun working on the show. The writer, Kathy Wierenga,
interviewed all of us about our slumber party experiences and wove them
together into an episode. I think it did a very good job showing what can
happen at a Slumber Party."
The Great Wishy Woz
The Great Wishy Woz was taken from an actual Kids' Radio broadcast written
and directed by Mandy Straussberg. "I was a bit nervous directing my first
show," says Mandy, "but seeing how well it turned out, I'm very glad that
they decided to put it into an Odyssey album."
The Title
The title of the album came from a rather interesting source. Two of the
producers of the show were arguing over what the title should be. One was
firmly set on calling the album "The Adventures in Odyssey shows that come
after In Your Wildest Dreams," a reference to the previous album. Another
was completely convinced that the album should be called "An Opportunity to
see the Best and the Worst of the Big Deal about Impossible Trials that you
Wish would happen as you Slumber while the Red Sun Rises," a title which
incorporates all the names of the episodes in the album. They got to yelling
and one said to the other, "You're not seeing the big picture!" Both of them
paused. They threw their hands in the air. That was it! The title of the
album should be, "You're Not Seeing!" (They later changed the title to "The
Big Picture.")
