Missions announces summer pledge drive
Around the World Missions, one of the largest
missions organizations in the country said yesterday that they will be
launching a campaign to bring in funds for needed renovations to the Nairobi
Children's Home, a Connellsville shelter for children funded by the
organization.
"The children's home has been one of the spiritual lighthouses in that
community," said Vince Ludwig, a representative of Around the World
Missions. "It's in the Oswald Heights section of Connellsville and the kids
there really need places that reach out to them." Ludwig notes the citizens
of Odyssey and Connellsville have always contributed to past funding
campaigns.
The central event of the campaign is the "Tomato War" to be held in three
weeks. Everyone who brings in over $20 to the collection headquarters at
Odyssey Community Church will be eligible. Two teams, one representing
Odyssey and one representing Connellsville, will face off in McAllister
Park. Both teams will be supplied with rotten tomatoes, which they will loft
at the other team. After one hour, the team that stays the cleanest will win
a free trip to the Laundromat. Ludwig and other representatives of Around
the World Missions will serve as judges.
