New Blog Format Announcement

By | April 2, 2012

Times are always changing here at The Odyssey Scoop. With an internet sensation as big as The Odyssey Scoop is (I know some of you will laugh when you read that), we’re always trying to keep current and provide the highest standard of quality possible. So, what does this mean?

For the past couple of years, The Odyssey Scoop’s commenting feature has been a service provided by aboutecho.com. We joined the bandwagon during a time when small websites, businesses, and non-profit sites such as The Odyssey Scoop could afford to use the service for a small subscription.

Unfortunately (for us), Echo recently announced that the plug will be pulled on its inexpensive service on October 1, 2012, and the company will focus on its bigger client services. In other words, their service is now being marketed to companies at a larger scale which have the funds to pay for such services. The Odyssey Scoop is not at a financial level to continue using those services.

To prevent a less dramatic transition, we’ve decided to make the trek to a commenting feature I think you will all be able to still enjoy. To complement the new commenting system (Disqus), we’re also beginning a new blog format at The Odyssey Scoop. We are officially introducing permalinks to the site. What is a permalink? In a nutshell, a permalink is an URL that points to a specific blog or forum entry after it has passed from the front page to the archives. In other words, all of our blog posts will each contain their own permanent link at the site from now on (like this one). It’s all in our efforts to help things in the back end of Odyssey Scoop Land: search engine optimization and easier sharing of blog posts on social networks.

Currently, the new blog format features a new look, with posts continuing on our site’s homepage as usual. Will this look change over time? Probably. We’ve got some ideas up our sleeves, as usual, so stay tuned as The Odyssey Scoop makes its odyssey to a bright future. With over a decade of experience providing the latest in Adventures in Odyssey news, we’ve learned and adapted to lots of changes. I guess that’s why checking back to The Odyssey Scoop has always been so exciting. You never know what you’re going to get.

As for the commenting system you have all grown to know and love, it’s still being utilized in various features throughout the website. We will be making the appropriate arrangements in the days ahead as our “unplug date” approaches.

For now, enjoy our new blog format. And be sure to comment!

      • SparkyTheHappyGiraffe

Yeah I sorta yelled that outloud so everyone in the room stared at me….

        • DoGlover

That’s funny! I just stared at my computer and was like “NOOOOOOOO!!! WHAT HAPPENED?!?! Did I do soething wrong?” So different . . .

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/theabbyandmandieshow/feed SparkyTheHappyGiraffe

      • Candace

Your not the only one that said that.

  • Lepoardsandzebras

    I don’t have email!

  • Joy

The new look is great! A lot more sleek than your previous one, no offense. It was a free service, though, so I understand. ;)

  • Candace

    I don’t like it:-(

    • Candace

      No offense.

  • Alohagirlnavygirl

Cool!! Sounds great . . . well i’m sure it would if I understood what it meant.

    • DoGlover

  • Connie

how do i add a icon?

    • http://www.odysseyscoop.com/ Jacob Isom

You can create an account with Disqus, the commenting system we now use. It’s an added benefit because you can post from your Disqus profile on other websites that use the same service. So, when you sign up, you’re not just limited to the Scoop.

      • Kandy

How do i create an account?

  • ODYSSEYLOVER

Whoa! Weird. But Cool. I like the old format a lot better though.

    • Mary

Odysseylover how did you get to keep your pic?

  • ODYSSEYLOVER

Nooooooooooooooooooo! I want the old one back! I so miss it. THis is so weird. I really want the old one back! Not that I don’t like it – I’m just used to all the old comment pages…

    • http://www.odysseyscoop.com/ Jacob Isom

I would love to continue on what we had used in the past, but the price model for the “Echo” service is geared for large companies, or at least for people with big budgets. I think everyone will adjust to the new look.

Actually, I think we might be seeing some improvements as time goes along. We’ve always got something up our sleeves.

      • ALF

It’s different, but I think we just need to get used to it.

  • Joy

And, you finally have it so you can subscribe! The old odysseyscoop just didn’t have that.

    • ALF

JOY. HI. If this is the right Joy…

To be honest, I kind of find it confusing… But I’m sure I’ll get used to it! I miss the smilies though. :( I don’t know if I can subscribe.

  • Mary

    wow it’s different.

    • ALF

Yeah… it’s like the blogging system on the AIOwiki, but a little more advanced.

      • Mary

i wish we could have the old one back. =[ i posted comments today on the old one but no one is commenting on there any more.

        • http://www.odysseyscoop.com/ Jacob Isom

I wish we could have the old one back, too, but on October 1st the company that runs the commenting service for the old format will be shutting down its old service and the existing comments will disappear. It’s inevitable. It’s better to make the transition now.

  • AbbyJoy13

Everything’s different but we can adapt….There will always be new things we have to get used to :)

  • DoGlover

When I first saw the new changes i was like “Noooo! What happened? My computer is going wack!”

  • DoGlover

Can u still talk on the interact page?

    • http://www.odysseyscoop.com/ Jacob Isom

For now, though we’re going to have to come up with something new in the future since the service is going to be shut down in October.

      • ALF

        NOOO! :(

        • DoGlover

          Not Cool!

          • Candace

It’s funny reading these comments seeing how freaked out everyone is about the new commenting system. It’s quite interesting.
